About Anna

Her research explores listening as both a political and aesthetic experience, using sound as a device to build relational environments. In her most recent works, she extends her radiophonic practice into sonic interventions in urban spaces. Within this process, the presence of the other becomes crucial in questioning the notion of identity, while listening becomes the catalyst of relation and exchange. Her works, articulated as voice, language and sonic ambulation, lies in between sound and radio art, installation and urban intervention. Dwelling on the borderline area of the sound’s intimacy and intimidation, Raimondo aims at fostering a negotiation between verbal and non-verbal communication, and the active participation of the audience. Anna Raimondo completed the MA Sound Arts at the London College of Communication (University of the Arts London). She has participated in several international exhibitions and festivals including the solo show “Beyond voice. Me, you and everyone who is listening” at Arte Contemporanea Bruxelles (BE); the 5th Marrakech Biennale (MA); “Espace (Im)Media” in Sporobole Art Center (Sherbrooke, CA); the collective sound exhibition “Dirty Ear” at Errant Bodies (Berlin, DE); as well the public sound art festival “Paraphrasing Babel“ in Maastricht (NL); the public art festival “Nouzah Fenia – Festival de Casablanca” (MA); etc. Her radiophonic works have been broadcast internationally (Kunst Radio, AT; Deutschlandradio Kultur, DE; Resonance fm, UK; Arte Radio, FR; Mobile Radio Bsp, BR; Rai, IT…). Her curatorial projects are mainly focused on sound and radio art and have been presented in different venues, including the V&A Museum (London, UK); Le Cube- Independent Art Room (Rabat, MA); MuCEM (Marseille, FR); Spazio O’ (Milan, IT). She is co-editor with the artist Younes Baba-Ali on the radio and sound art’s platform Saout Radio. She also initiated Echoes with Amélie Agut, an itinerant pedagogic and artistic project about radio art and sonic memories. She writes for the French radio art magazine Syntone.

During the residency at Fap, Anna Raimondo has collected a series of encouragements through the voices of San Cipriano Picentino’s inhabitants. Phrases, words and proverbs, given or received, which pushed these people at a time of their life. These recordings have then been played back in the streets of the village readjusting the local system of fruit and vegetables street vending through the use of a pickup truck equipped with a megaphone.
