Going West

About Louise

After training in classical dance, Louise Vanneste studied at P.A.R.T.S., graduating in 2000. Awarded a scholarship by the SPES Foundation, she continued her training with the Trisha Brown Company in New York. Since her return, she has appeared in Belgium and abroad and worked with artists from different disciplines, including video-maker Stéphane Broc, musicians and composers Cédric Dambrain and Antoine Chessex, dancer-choreographer Ayelen Parolin, lighting designer Renaud Ceulemans, dancer Eveline Van Bauwel and visual artists Arnaud Gerniers and Stephan Balleux. In June 2008, she staged her first group piece Sie kommen. She has since created the solo HOME (2010), the trio Persona (2011), the duet Black Milk and the four screens installation Going West (2013).

Each of Louise Vanneste’s pieces arises from a close interaction between the media – visual art, music, lighting and video – involved in the choreographic process. Together they form one and the same space-time. An integral part of this particular time and place, the body explores different mental and physical states. Through a process of depersonalisation and/or re-personalisation (inventing or effacing conventions concerning the body, the mental state and the relationship with the other), it is about apprehending the body as a space of experiences that intensifies the “here and now on stage”. The body or bodies and media therefore give rise to a different reality with elements that come from reality but which, when shifted, cause turmoil. Dance being essentially ephemeral, for the choreographer it is about crystallising the present moment, questioning in this way our relationship with memory, instinct, the stage presence and perception in general. Louise Vanneste is currently preparing his next creation Gone in a heartbeat which will premiere in Mai 2015 during the Kunstenfestivaldesarts.

During her residency at Fap Luise Vanneste worked on the script and location scouting of Going West.
Going West is a road trip on foot, a silent film in which the body and the music are the main characters. Together they inspire a fictitious dramatisation of the images and flirt with the plot while remaining in a non narrative context. Going West is a four screens installation.
