About the artists

Luigi De Angelis was born in Bruxelles. In 1992 found the company Fanny & Alexander together with Chiara Lagani. He is director, set and light designer, graphic designer and musician. His directions and conceptions always start from an interrelation between music, sound space and scenic space, arising from visual arts and contemporary music repertoire. Luigi De Angelis curated the graphic project of some Fanny & Alexander's publications, among others: Ada – romanzo teatrale per enigmi in sette dimore and O/Z – Atlante di un viaggio teatrale, for Ubulibri publisher's collection I Libri Quadrati. Luigi De Angelis will be directing the new production of Die Zauberflöte at Teatro Comunale di Bologna in May 2015. In October 2015 he will stage a concert installation project with compisitions by Giacinto Scelsi, called In Nomince Lucis that will debut in De Singel, Antwerp.

Sergio Policicchio is a visual artist born in Buenos Aires in 1985. He moves to Ravenna in 2004 where he gets his degree in Fine Arts. He performs with many theatre comapanies such as Motus, Anagoor, Romeo Castelluci/Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio, Michele di Stefano /MK. His research represents the attempt to place himself within the thin space in which is sound of language and landscape. This space becomes the starting point to explore new qualities of presence, time and space through performance, installation, light and sound.

B U C O B I A N C O (W h i t e H o l e) a project by Luigi De Angelis and Sergio Policicchio “A white hole, in general relativity, is a hypothetical region of spacetime which cannot be entered from the outside, but from which matter and light have the ability to esca- pe. From this point of view it is the opposite of a black hole, which can be entered from the outside, but from which nothing, not even light, has the ability to escape. Hence, someone thinks that white holes might be the far end of a spacetime tunnel connecting a black hole with very distant regions of the universe or even with other universes.” The project is meant to inquire, by means of a vast mapping operation, into a urban area’s body of sound. Ravenna is a geographically unique town which presents itself to the eyes of a stranger as an elusive, irreducible, immeasurable, labyrinthine body. Plunged into the waters starting from the name itself (Ravenna, “flowing of waters”), Ravenna’s body of sound has always been changing, it rushes towards the sea and at the very same time it sinks into itself. Following the trajectories of animals, dwelling upon their kingdoms, mostly hidden and parallel to the flow of contemporary life, the project attempts to compose, by means of the lenticular technique of micro-mosaic, a thin body of sound of very ancient origin, which passes over the physical and time borders of the town, its towers, its walls, its barriers. An imaginal and sound body, suspended over the perpetual comings and goings of waters between the swamps and the sea, a body like bellows which opposite forces flow through, with its door on the sea open on infinity.
During their residency at Fap Luigi de Angelis and Sergio Policicchio investigated and recorded the sounds of the mountains of the Picentini Regional Mountain Parc to create an extra tile of this intense soundscape mosaic. During the performance people in the garden could hear resonate in real time sounds that were captured in the village.
